Its a RARE 1921 issue "Facsimile of stamp issued by the Irish Republic during the Rebellion, Easter, 1916. Issued by Godfrey Phillips, Ltd". It's printed onto a 100% woven silk patch, in beautiful condition with bright colours. Silk in Clear Plastic Sleeve- 29 Silk in Solid Wooden Frame- 37 Framed background is white and Emerald Green, See Photos. Frame is Solid Wood and can stand on a mantle or desk or is ready to hang on a wall. Approx Frame Size: 10" X 8"- 255mm X 200mm Design: Shamrock enclosing a harp and portraits of the "Manchester martyrs" Allen, Larkin, and O'Brien, against the tricolor. Inscription "GOD SAVE IRELAND" at bottom center. Size approx 70mm X 50mm Manchester Martyrs: The Manchester Martyrs, Philip Allen, Michael Larkin and Michael O'Brien were three innocent Irishmen hanged in public outside the New Bailey prison in Salford on 23 November 1867. They had been wrongly convicted of murdering a police sergeant, killed in the course of a successful raid on Hyde Road, Manchester to free two leading Fenians. More than a century later, the Irish Government planned to give the trio a State funeral, but when they requested the remains of Allen, Larkin and O'Brien, the British authorities couldn't find them. This set was issued by Godfrey Phillips Ltd ENGLAND 1921 Silks were popular in the early 1900s, and were considered collectible premiums, usually only found with more expensive brands of cigarettes. Due to the delicate nature of the silk and the numbers issued, these have become very scarce and hard to come by. This is in excellent condition for a silk its age.
